RE
At St Willibrord's RC Primary School, all that we do is rooted in our mission to 'Grow In God'. We believe that Religious Education should be at the foundation of all our teaching as we help our children to come closer to Jesus Christ. We aim to reflect the Gospel message that has been shared with us in our school daily and we aim to support this with our pupils, staff, parents and community to help in the development of our faith journey.
We believe that Religious Education is not only about formal, dedicated lesson times but is about our thoughts, words and actions in our daily lives. We wish for our Catholic values to shine through all that we do, all that we say, all that we think and all that we pray - asking ourselves 'What would Jesus do?' as we strive to 'Grow In God'.
Our Curriculum
Our school has taken the decision to transition fully towards the Religious Education Directory (To Know You More Clearly) from September 2025. Downloads of this can be found by clicking here
The model curriculum has six themes (or branches) which map onto the six half terms of the school year. In each unit, children study the Bible and learn about the Catholic world view lived out in the Catholic Church. THey reflect on what this learning means for their lives. The branches follow the liturgical cycle of the Church's year allowing us to make links with the wider Catholic life of the school. The curriculum helps pupils to build up layers of knowledge, deepening them each year through a growing understanding of scripture. This ensures progression and allows children to reflect upon what their learning means for them.
The six branches are
- Creation and covenant (Autumn 1)
- Prophecy and promise (Autumn 2)
- Galilee to Jerusalem (Spring 1)
- Desert to garden (Spring 2)
- To the ends of the earth (Summer 1)
- Dialogue and encounter (Summer 2)
Additionally, pupils will study two world religion units of study. These will currently follow the 'Come and See' education materials for all classes.
Nursery / Reception / Year 1 / Year 2
These classes will be following the 'Lighting the Path' curriculum as recommended by Salford Diocese.
Years 3/4/5/6
These classes will be trialling the teaching materials provided by Salford Diocese which follow the outlines of the six branches above.
