Accessibility statement for St Willibrord's RC Primary School website

This accessibility statement applies to the St Willibrord's RC Primary School website at St Willibrord's

This website is run by St Willibrord's RC Primary School. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website and to access the information and services they need.

As a primary school, St Willibrord's is partially exempt from the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018, except for content relating to essential online administrative functions. We nevertheless aim to make the wider website as accessible as reasonably possible and to make reasonable adjustments where needed.

Technical information about this website's accessibility

St Willibrord's RC Primary School is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 where those regulations apply to school website content.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Some older links use generic wording such as 'here' rather than describing the destination clearly. This can make links harder to understand for people using screen readers or navigating by links. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.4 (Link Purpose - In Context). We are replacing unclear link text as pages are reviewed and will prioritise statutory and service pages during the 2026-27 academic year.

Some older images and graphics do not have sufficiently useful text alternatives. Where an image communicates information, this can prevent screen-reader users from accessing the same information. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content). We are reviewing images on key pages and will add appropriate alternative text or provide the same information as webpage text.

Some older downloadable PDF and Word documents were not created using current accessibility standards and may not contain the heading structure, document tags or equivalent text needed by assistive technology. This can affect WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships), and criterion 1.1.1 where non-text content is not adequately described. We are prioritising information needed to access school services and key statutory information, publishing it as HTML webpage content where practical and replacing or remediating documents when they are reviewed.

Disproportionate burden

We are not currently relying on a disproportionate burden assessment for any known accessibility issue on the website. If this position changes, we will carry out and record the required assessment and update this statement.

Content that is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Primary and secondary schools are partially exempt from the accessibility regulations except for content relating to essential online administrative functions. We will always prioritise the accessibility of information and forms that people need in order to use school services.

PDFs and other documents published before 23 September 2018 do not have to meet the accessibility regulations unless they are essential to providing a school service. Where older material is still needed to access a service, we will provide an accessible alternative on request and will review whether the content should be replaced.

Live audio and video, maps where essential information is also provided in accessible text, and some third-party content that is not funded, developed or controlled by the school may also fall outside the scope of the regulations. We will still seek accessible alternatives where this is reasonable and useful to our school community.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

We are continuing to improve the accessibility of the website by:

• publishing key service and statutory information directly as webpage text rather than relying only on PDFs or images;

• replacing generic link text with meaningful descriptions;

• checking images and graphics for appropriate alternative text;

• improving the accessibility of new Word and PDF documents before publication;

• checking key pages and links as part of the school's website compliance review;

• prioritising accessibility when older pages and documents are updated; and

• working with our website provider, Juniper Education, where a platform-level accessibility issue requires technical support.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This revised statement was prepared on 12 October 2026 and was last reviewed on 12 October 2026.

The website was last self-assessed on 12 October 2026 against the WCAG 2.2 AA standard and the accessibility requirements that apply to school websites. The self-assessment reviewed a representative sample of key statutory and service pages, links, downloadable documents, images and published information as part of the school's wider website compliance audit.

The assessment was carried out by the school. It was a sample-based content and publication review rather than a full independent technical WCAG audit, so the school does not claim that every WCAG 2.2 success criterion has been independently tested. If further testing identifies additional issues, this statement will be updated.

This statement will be reviewed at least annually and whenever there is a significant change to the website or its accessibility position. The next scheduled review is October 2027, or earlier if required.
